An extraordinary revision of the classic organ trio format, this recently formed band is often leaving listeners speechless wherever it plays.
A bit unconventional and not easy to categorize, the band draws on the beautiful tradition of American music to define a style of its own: somewhere between blues and jazz, with recognizable gospel, rock, be-bop, rhythm`n’blues, funk and pop elements. Many different ideas come into this music, but definitely there is a common denominator: these three musicians have an awesome feel for the blues. The recordings you are listening to testify how much blues there is in this music-in the form of groove, dynamics, intensity, and soul.
A former student of Ronnie Earl, Duke Robillard and Kenny Burrell, Enrico Crivellaro has developed a refined yet explosive guitar style wich has led him to tour and record with an impressive number of historic blues, jazz and rock bands-among them the incredible punk-blues group “13” led by the late Lester Butler, the James Harman Band, the Janiva Magness Band, and the legendary swing machine Royal Crown Revue. His reputation is growing all over the world as he tours regularly from North and South America to Europe, to Australia, to Asia and even Polynesia, playing the most renowned clubs and festivals and having often shared the bill with the likes of John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, Mose Allison, Hiram Bullock, and so forth. Just recently he won the Swing Awards as world`s Best Swing Guitarist of the Year for his work on Royal Crown Revue`s new live record “Passport to Australia,” prevailing over such competitors as Brian Setzer and Sean Costello. An exellent acknowledgment for a down-to-earth musician who has gone a long way from his beloved hometown Padova, Italy, to become a guitar player in high demand in California.
Having learned his skills directly from the master Jack McDuff, organist Alberto Marsico is regarded as one of Europe`s (and not only!) best Hammond B-3 players. His bass lines and sense of dynamics are phenomenal, as well as his sound. And his versatility, ranging from the greasiest blues to be-bop atmospheres, is proved by a remarkable resume which includes work with Jimmy Witherspoon and an amazing organ-drums duo with Deed Purple`s drummer Ian Paice. Alberto had been playing piano and keyboards for ten years when he met B3 virtuoso Jack McDuff in 1994 and atteded the courses that Jack taught. For Alberto, who since then regards the Hammond organ as his main and favorite instrument, and for his musical career, this was the turning point. Since then he has played at a countless number of festivals and clubs across Europe (Berlin, Rome, Frankfurt, Brussels, Den Haag, Ljubljana, Barcelona, Zagreb, Lisboa, Paris), and has recorded several cd`s.
Holding a Master`s degree in composition and arranging for big bands, drummer Gio Rossi is a completet musician with a big passion for the vintage drum sounds and grooves of Gene Krupa, Louie Bellson, and Fred Below. His outstanding sece of swing paired with his contegious joviality on stage make of him one of the best sounding drummers around, as well as one of the most entertaining! A faforite of big bands, jump blues bands, and jazz combos, Gio Rossi is simply one of the best drummers when it comes to playing in a hammond trio. These recordings won`t fall short of demonstrating why.
Alberto and Gio have recorded together in California in several occasions, including the two solo cd`s from Johnny Nocturne`s Band guitarist Anthony Paule, the forthcoming release from Alex Schultz with Larry Taylor on bass and Finis Tasby on vocals, and the newest cd by Huey Lewis` saxophonist Rob Sudduth.
These live recordings might not have as good a quality as studio sessions, but they are far better at capturing the spirit of this band, and its high-level energy. Keep this in mind and you will enjoy them thoroughly!
