Singer Jaap Meurs was involved in the early days of the Fake Brothers Band; he has worked successfully for the last 15 years, both at home and abroad, with various line-ups and small changes in the group's name. For instance, he played in Switzerland at the Montreaux Festival with Lucky Peterson (among others) and culminated with an impressive trip to America. Jaap began singing in school bands in the late sixties and even then rendered such classics as John Lee Hooker. His years of experience and his striking appearance show that he is truly "reverent of the blues"
Drummer Thomas "Thom" Vermeulen has also played in the Heineken Band rock and blues band, The Dirty White Boys and Bertje Benen's Bloedgroep. Thomas is a pure workaholic and goes for the full 100% in everything he does, except for when it's time for his solo and he goes for 110% . Just like Keith Moon of The Who, Thom is "the life and soul of the party", always in for a laugh, until it's time to get back to work when he can sometimes achieve things which no one had though possible until then!
Bassist Arie "The Cracker" de Kruif has played around for years with a wide range of music styles, varying from guitar pop to fusion and was even familiar with world music. However, after all that (as he calls it himself) turning inside out of scales and chords, he finally found peace with the blues. Like one word, one note can say more than ten put together as long as it's played with feeling. Don't let it be misunderstood though that Arie chose the blues out of laziness, because they don't call him 'the cracker' for nothing!
Guitarist Carlo "the man who reduced the average age of the band considerably" Gentenaar, started playing guitar when he heard the live-performance of Jimi Hendrix' Johnny B. Goode, followed a few years later when a friend played a Stevie Ray Vaughn CD. It was then that he saw the light for the second time, so becoming dedicated to the blues. A regular occurance now is that somewhere in the audience where the Fake Brothers are playing, someone will start calling out: "Stevie!"
These are the four basic parts which make up the Fake Brothers 'Blues Stew' and as Jaap Meurs asks his audience in the same number..... "ARE YOU READY FOR THE BLUES STEW?".....
